When it's no longer hypothetical

Big scare last night. A fire started near my neighborhood and by the time I heard about it, the streets surrounding mine had all been ordered to evacuate. Our street was still open for business, but it was shut down to traffic so by the time I got close to home (about an hour after the fire started) I couldn't get my car in. I ditched it and walked the last mile home. Thankfully no homes were lost and the fire seems to have switched directions.

Pics above show how close the fire got to homes on the backside and the view of the same homes (at the end of the street with the smoke plume behind) from my driveway.

I saw on OV's site about how you mentioned a Riders Union. I've been talking to some pro riders - current and retired - and a friend/lawyer/racer about that same idea. I first started talking to one rider about it a couple years ago. I feel that racers are treated like dogs and have no protection. The main fear they all have (the ones I've talked to) is the reprecusions that might take place from the federation.

I believe that 90% of the advancements and technology in bike racing has come from America in the past 30 years and the place to start a union and change is here. Once it becomes secure, it would only be natural for the riders in Europe to follow our lead.

I'm just spewing the basics of what we've been discussing, but the riders need a change. I respect your insight.
